School Daze
Dazed and confused by school services and reading programs?
Is Your Child’s Reading Program Preventing Reading Success?
Get with the Program or Don’t!
What’s the deal with reading programs?
If your child has reading problems and goes to school on Earth, chances are they are in a scientific-based reading program.
Programs are a big business and for many schools. It is the solution to providing support for your kid.
Here are 5 things to consider.
1. Weird Science. If you picture scientists, beakers, and explosions it’s not that interesting. Scientific research-based programs mean that the strategies, tests, and materials are used on groups of students. Then if the results were effective they are then sold to schools and taught to teachers.
2.” We Don’t Need No Education.” Even the best programs won’t work if a child has experienced too much failure. Programs can damage self-perception and take away motivation.
3. “Another Brick in the Wall.” Make sure your child is being taught not just the program. Programs have scopes, sequences, lessons, objectives, and formats. They are not effective if your child does not respond to the program.
4. “Just What I Needed.” The right program for your child can make it or break it. There are programs out there created by masterminds. When delivered by trained professionals it will astound you at how fast your child will grow as a reader.
5.End of the Line. Programs get old and kids get bored. Their learning needs change, so check in on your child’s success and happiness frequently.
